The primary ways in which US nationals come to the UK are as guests, as fiancee's/spouses/civil companions of UK or EEA nationals, or tied to studies, employment or funding. With all of those categories, it is essential to prove that you'll not have to be supported by state funds (ie welfare) when you get right here, and that you've someplace to live.
